Aug 7 -Toddler die in exorcisms

KUALA LUMPUR, A 3-year-old Malaysian girl was killed in a suspected exorcism ritual by family members who believed she was possessed by evil spirits, police said Tuesday.

Police raided a house in northern Penang state late Sunday after receiving a distress call from a family member and found a group of eight people lying on top of the girl in a bedroom, said district police chief Azman Abdul Lah.

The girl was face down under the human pile, which comprised her parents, grandmother, uncle, aunt, two cousins and their Indonesian maid, he said.

The room was dark and chanting could be heard from under a blanket covering the group, Azman said.

The girl died of suffocation, and all eight involved have been detained, he added.

Belief in the supernatural has long been entrenched among Malaysia's main Malay, Chinese and Indian ethnic communities, though occult rituals have waned in recent decades.

Deaths linked to such rituals are occasionally recorded. Two Malay cousins were sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2010 for killing the parents of one of them during a spiritual cleansing ritual in that involved beating the slain couple with brooms and motorcycle helmets.

Mars 21 -Pope 'exorcised two men in the Vatican'

Pope Benedict unwittingly performed an exorcism of two men possessed by the Devil in the very heart of the Vatican, according to the Catholic Church's best-known exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth.

Jule 25 -Never thought I’d end up doing this!

“I never thought I’d end up doing this, no,” admits the middle-aged priest whose unexpected path to becoming an exorcist began while saying one of his first Masses after he was ordained 15 years ago.

“At the moment of consecration of the precious blood I asked the Lord to shower his blood upon the youth and to help any young men who may have a vocation to the priesthood.”

The instant reaction of one 13-year old boy shocked the young priest, “he fell backwards and started growling. And I thought, ‘I wasn’t expecting this!’”

Several years later, and he is one of a new generation of exorcists-in-training following a decision by the U.S. bishops in November 2010 to vastly increase the number of exorcists, which might number as low as 50 in America.

FOUR children from the same family have been found dead in Haiti after being treated by a witch doctor who claimed to be able to cure them of a mysterious illness, a local official said Friday.
"Three girls and a boy, the eldest of whom was seven years old and the youngest only 15 months, suffered abuse from the healer who was treating them," said Wilfrid Brisson, an official from the southern town of Marbial.
"They were then abandoned in their mother's bed."
According to neighbours, the sorcerer - who was assisted by his brother - persuaded the victims' mother that the children were possessed by a demon and said he could rid their soul of the devil.
The witch doctor and his brother beat the children repeatedly, in steps they said were necessary to expel the demon, and the youngsters died from the blows, said Mr Brisson.
The alleged killers have apparently fled to the capital Port-au-Prince. An investigation by authorities in Marbial is under way and the children's mother is in custody.

The exorcist of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis will visit South Orange.  Father Vincent Lampert, one of only 36 exorcists in the United States, will speak at Seton Hall University on Wednesday October 31, 2012 at 8:30pm in the Main Lounge of the University Center.

Lampert has been a part of three genuine possessions in the US, and has witnessed and assisted in many exorcisms while studying exorcism in Rome, under Father Carmine DeFilippis.

Lampert, a Vatican-trained exorcist, was appointed by Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein to the office of exorcist.  He also serves as the pastor of SS. Francis and Clare of Assisi Parish in Greenwood, Indiana.

There is no admission fee or registration required.

Sep 13 -Pope John Paul II 'could not cure drooling, trembling woman during Vatican exorcism'

Pope John Paul II performed an exorcism on a "drooling, trembling" woman in the Vatican but was unable to cure her of her demons, according to the Catholic Church's most famous exorcist.

The young woman was brought to one of the Polish pontiff's weekly audiences in st Peter's Square in 2000 and started screaming, writhing on the floor and drooling.

The encounter is described in a new book by Father Gabriele Amorth, the exorcist for the diocese of Rome.

As soon as she entered St Peter's Square, in front of the Vatican, her behaviour became bizarre.

"When John Paul appeared, she began to wail. Ten people had to hold her down. She wanted to fling herself at the Pope. Her face was full of hate. She was drooling, uttering blasphemies.

"Her body trembled. She was like a beast ready to attack," Father Amorth wrote in his book, The Last Exorcist – My Fight Against Satan, which was released on Tuesday.

After the audience was over, the Pope reportedly asked to be taken to see the woman in his Popemobile.

"Sabrina was in a trance. Her eyes were two white orbs. She was drooling and throwing her head backwards. As soon as she was brought close to the Pope she started yelling 'No, leave me alone!' The pope carried out an exorcism on the spot. He blessed her several times. And then he left," wrote Father Amorth, the founder and president of the International Association of Exorcists.

But the exorcism did not work – when Sabrina was brought to see Father Amorth later that day, she was still possessed, according to Father Amorth.

"She was very agitated. I started to exorcise her. But the Devil wanted to show that he was still in command. I started to pray and said 'Get out, foul spirit.' It replied 'You get out, priest'. I said 'Why are you in this woman? Answer in the name of Christ'. The spirit answered 'You must all worship me because I am the strongest. I am God.'"

Father Amorth claimed that the young woman then got up from her chair and proceeded to walk up the wall behind him "as if it was the most natural thing in the world. She walked against every law of gravity."

It eventually took many sessions to cleanse her entirely of her demons, he said. "But I'm convinced that in some way the exorcism carried out by JPII left a trace in her."

The Pope had more success with an exorcism in the Vatican in March, 1982, when a young girl named Francesca Fabrizi was brought to him by the Bishop of Spoleto in Umbria.

"She was writhing around on the floor, crying out. She became calm when the Pope said 'Tomorrow I will say mass for you'," Father Amorth wrote. She went on to live a normal life, getting married and having children.

In his book, he also claimed the current Pope, Benedict XVI, performed an exorcism on two men possessed by the Devil at one of his weekly audiences in St Peter's Square in May 2009.

Aug 14 -Walmart Exorcism: Kansas Couple Faces Charges Of Child Abuse

At the preliminary hearing for Adolfo Gomez and Deborah M. Gomez, police officer Hayden Fowler testified that one of the couple’s kids admitted the family believed they were surrounded by demons. Adolfo and Deborah apparently felt that these otherworldly forces had somehow possessed two of their beloved children, forcing these concerned parents to take matters into the own hands. Not surprisingly, they are currently facing charges of child abuse and child endangerment.

When authorities first arrived on the scene, Adolfo and his brood were “loudly either reciting religious sayings or possibly praying” inside their SUV. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that officers also found a cooler filled with several bottles of urine, though it’s unclear where this fluid came from. What’s more, police are still baffled as to how the family intended to perform the exorcism on their offspring.

Adolfo and Deborah were arrested back in June after someone spotted their children bound and rolling around on the ground outside of their vehicle in a Walmart parking lot. Altogether, the couple has five children, their ages ranging from five to 15. Presently, all of their kids are in protective custody.

Douglas County District Court Judge Paula Martin ruled that, while prosecutors couldn’t prove their case in regards to endangerment, there was an abundance of evidence that suggested the children had been abused.

If something weird is going to happen in America, chances are it’s going to go down at Walmart. The superstore has been a virtual magnet for all sorts of bizarre behavior, including teenage mobshell bent on destruction, KY Jelly-stealing public fornicators, and customers who find themselves superglued to the store's toilets . An exorcism in the parking lot seems like just another day at America’s favorite retailer.

Mars 01 -Teen Exorcism Squad: Three Girls Claim Ability To Cast Out Demons

"My first exorcism was when I was 13," said 17-year-old Brynne on The Andersson Cooper Show yesterday. Brynne has allegedly cast out demons from dozens of people. Along with 17-year-old Tess and 20-year-old Savannah, she claims to have the ability to identify and expel evil.

Brynne is the daughter of Texas preacher Reverend Bob Larsen, a well-known spiritual guide who claims to have cast out over 15,000 demons over the course of his career. Brynne claims to have performed her first exorcism at a church in Africa, under her father's watch, at the age of 13. The three girls are Larsen's newest apprentices -- he gives them hours of training each week and insists that the girls have exorcised dozens of people already.

Sep 12 -Exorcism boom in Poland sees magazine launch

WARSAW: With exorcism booming in Poland, Roman Catholic priests here have joined forces with a publisher to launch what they claim is the world’s first monthly magazine focused exclusively on chasing out the devil.

“The rise in the number or exorcists from four to more than 120 over the course of 15 years in Poland is telling,” Father Aleksander Posacki, a professor of philosophy, theology and leading demonologist and exorcist told reporters in Warsaw at the Monday launch of the Egzorcysta monthly.
Ironically, he attributed the rise in demonic possessions in what remains one of Europe’s most devoutly Catholic nations partly to the switch from atheist communism to free market capitalism in 1989.
“It’s indirectly due to changes in the system: capitalism creates more opportunities to do business in the area of occultism. Fortune telling has even been categorised as employment for taxation,” Posacki told AFP.
“If people can make money out of it, naturally it grows and its spiritual harm grows too,” he said, hastening to add authentic exorcism is absolutely free of charge.
Posacki, who also serves on an international panel of expert Roman Catholic exorcists, highlighted what he termed the “helplessness of various schools of psychology and psychiatry” when confronted with extreme behaviours that conventional therapies fail to cure.
“Possession comes as a result of committing evil. Stealing, killing and other sins,” he told reporters, adding that evil spirits are chased out using a guide of ritual prayers approved by Polish-born pope John Paul II in 1999.
“Our hands are full,” admitted fellow exorcist and Polish Roman Catholic priest Father Andrzej Grefkowicz, revealing exorcists have a three month waiting list in the capital Warsaw.
Priests performing exorcism also work with psychiatrists in order to avoid mistaking mental illness for possession, he said.
“I’ve invited psychiatrists to meetings when I’ve had doubts about a case and often we’ve both concluded the issue is mental illness, hysteria, not possession,” he said.
According to both exorcists, depictions of demonic possession in horror films are largely accurate.
“It manifests itself in the form of screams, shouting, anger, rage – threats are common,” Posacki said.
“Manifestation in the form or levitation is less common, but does occur and we must speak about it — I’ve seen it with my own eyes,” he added.
With its 62-page first issue including articles titled “New Age — the spiritual vacuum cleaner” and “Satan is real”, the Egzorcysta monthly with a print-run of 15,000 by the Polwen publishers is selling for 10 zloty (2.34 euros, 3.10 dollars) per copy.

Interview With an Exorcist

In today’s culture of scientific enlightenment, many consider belief in demonic possession and exorcism to be superstitious remnants of the Dark Ages. Even many Christians, contrary to the clear words of Jesus in the Gospel, scoff at the notion that the Devil and demons really exist. Is demonic possession real? Are believers really in any danger from Satan and his crafty minions? What is the truth about exorcism? This book has these answers, and much more! 100 questions and answers!

Ouija Board

The questions exist - Can mediumship or spirit communication lead to 'possession'? Is automatic writing a dangerous pursuit? Does danger exist 'out there'?

What is the controlling force behind such things as the Ouija Board? Experts find it difficult to agree on answers to these questions. Early researchers in psychology and psychiatry refered to ouija-type devices and to spirit-writing with pencil or planchette as a form of automatism.

Following the lead of noted 'psychic medium' Eileen Garrett, modern research tends to regard 'guides' and so-called spirit controls as secondary personalities, which lie deep within the subconscious mind - only to surface when some form of parapsychic 'spirit' communication is attempted.

Demon

The evil demon

The evil demon, sometimes referred to as the evil genius, is a concept in Cartesian philosophy. In his 1641 Meditations on First Philosophy, René Descartes hypothesized the existence of an evil demon, a personification who is "as clever and deceitful as he is powerful, who has directed his entire effort to misleading me." The evil demon presents a complete illusion of an external world, including other minds, to Descartes' senses, where in fact there is no such external world in existence. The evil genius also presents to Descartes' senses a complete illusion of his own body, including all bodily sensations, when in fact Descartes has no body. Most Cartesian scholars opinion that the evil demon is also omnipotent, and thus capable of altering mathematics and the fundamentals of logic

Sep 28 -Japan hangs exorcist cult-leader

A cult-leader who beat six of her followers to death with Japanese Taiko drum sticks in a bizarre exorcism ceremony, was hanged in Japan on Thursday. Sachiko Eto, 65, became a "self-professed God" in the 1990's according to IB Times. She acquired a cult following that believed in her powers to drive out demons during bizarre exorcism ceremonies involving Taiko drum sticks. In 2005 Eto was sentenced to death when she was convicted of beating six cult followers to death and hiding their bodies in her home.Emirates 247 reported Eto's lawyers argued diminished responsibility due to mental problems. At her trial Eto claimed, "I did it as part of a religious service. I never thought they were going to die.” Her daughter and another cult member, Yutaka Nemoto, Eto's lover, were sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of acting as Eto's accomplices. In addition to hanging Eto, Japan also hanged Yukinori Matsuda on Thursday. The Independent reported he was convicted of murdering two people during the course of a robbery. Their hangings bring the number of executions in Japan this year to seven.

FORT THOMAS — Exorcism is the stuff of movies, but for the Rev. Gary Thomas, it is a Catholic rite. He is an exorcist, trained in the Vatican and Rome, and his story inspired a book and a 2011 film. Thomas describes his ministry as one of healing.

“I don’t do exorcisms on demand,” he said. “It’s dangerous, and it’s not always what people need.

“I have to get to the root cause of what they’re suffering from – it is preternatural or psychological,” he said.

“In every instance I am called into, there is deep suffering,” Thomas said. “In most instances, it is not demonic; it’s a mental health issue. But either way, our church has a responsibility to help these people.”

In the seven years he’s been an exorcist, Thomas has worked with a dozen cases of possession among about 125 inquiries. He counts three of the individuals as “delivered,” another three he is still working with. The others started the process but did not finish.“My message to people is that Satan is real, demonic possession is real – it’s not superstition, not myth, not medieval,” he said. “But the church has remedies.” Thomas had been a priest for 22 years when his bishop of the Diocese of San Jose, Calif., asked if would learn about exorcism. Not every diocese is required to have a priest trained in exorcism. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati does have one but they are not eager to identify him. The Diocese of Covington does not have a priest designated as an exorcist. If needed, they seek assistance from Cincinnati. Thomas went to Rome on a sabbatical to study spirituality and took a class on the topic.

He went deeper, studying with a Italian exorcist. And a classmate from his exorcism class asked if he would be willing to share his experiences for a book. The story of his internship inspired the book “The Rite” (2009), which was made into a movie released in 2011 starring Anthony Hopkins, who played the veteran priest. One marked difference in the film is that Thomas’ character is shown as a seminarian rather than an established priest.

Oct 09 -17 Cebu students 'possessed' by spirits

Seventeen high school students were allegedly possessed by evil spirits inside a school in Talisay City, Cebu Monday. Classes have been suspended in Jaclupan National High School yesterday after 4th year students were allegedly possessed by spirits inside their classroom at around 9:00 a.m. One female student allegedly began shouting in a man’s voice. Her classmates then tried to help her but ended up being possessed by evil spirits too. The possessed students were immediately brought to Mary’s Little Children Community in Barangay Tabunoc, where an exorcism administered by Msgr. Fred Krekeenbeck took place.Krekeenbeck prayed over the students and asked them to confess. Some were also asked to attend a religious seminar.
The students said they remember seeing a dark, old woman before the alleged possession occurred.
Fr. Nestor Atillo of Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Brgy. Jaclupan reminds students to always pray and participate in church activities to drive away evil spirits.

Oct 22 -The Exorcist - Italy

The controversial practice of exorcism is experiencing a popular revival. This disturbing report investigates the priests on the frontline, who claim they are fighting battles in a war against the devil.

"I command you Satan: leave this woman immediately!" Father Massimiliano Pusceddu is a member of the growing band of young exorcists in the ranks of the Roman Catholic church. He's part of the fight against growing reports of demonic possession, attributed to "dark forces preying on the young". But the practice is not without critics. According to activist Marco Dimitri, "the problem is that most exorcisms are performed on people who are not of sound mind, who need psychological help. And that's why it's a criminal act". Whether superstition or gospel truth, this rare glimpse inside the practice makes one thing clear: the ritual is hugely traumatic for all of the individuals involved.

Oct 24 -'Get away from me you damned priest!': Shocking documentary captures Vatican-approved exorcist working on 'possessed' woman

A young woman screams uncontrollably as a priest recites a passage from the bible in a final attempt to exorcise the devil which has possessed her for 15 years.

It sounds like something from a horror movie, but this sinister scene is from a new real life documentary that highlights the extraordinary work of one of Europe’s only Vatican-approved 'exorcists'.
Produced by Norwegian filmmaker Fredrik Horn Akselsen, the film entitled The Exorcist in the 21st Century follows Father José Antonio Fortea on his one man crusade to rid the world of demons.

Oct 31 -'Indiana exorcist fights the devil': Shocking documentary captures Vatican-approved exorcist working on 'possessed' woman

“Probably the most bizarre thing I witnessed in an exorcism was in Rome when I saw somebody actually levitate who possessed during the prayers of exorcism,” said the catholic priest. “The priest was not amused by anything going on and he just pushed the person back down and he continued to pray. My jaw might’ve hit the floor at that time, like, 'What in the world is going on here?’

Nov 01 -'Oh Lord, this gives me the creeps.':

A producer in London has held a mass exorcism at a cinema in the capital, after claiming his film was being tormented by evil spirits.

This isn't the first time we've heard of strange goings on during the filming of horror flicks. Don't even talk to me about what may or may not have happened during The Exorcist; sleep is a priviledge I don't want taken away from me!

Anyhoo, while filming When The Lights Went Out, filmmaker Bill Bungay claimed there were more than a few strange occurrences connected to the film, something he blames on "the effects of a demonic possession." This movie centres on the alleged haunting of a Yorkshire home belonging to the director Pat Holden's aunt Jean Pritchard back in the 70s. Everything was scarier in the 70s.

So, strange occurrences, you say? Well apparently two screenings were hit by blackouts. This is what urged Bungay to hold an exorcism to cleanse the Soho Screening Rooms.

As per Digital Spy, with the help of 100 religious friends, the exorcism was carried out. In no way did the producer believe that this could be just a "coincidence."

Commenting on what to many will seem like an extreme reaction, Bungay says: "It was one thing to put the first power failure down to a bit of bad luck... But to move cinemas and have exactly the same thing happen 20 minutes into the movie when the evil presence is first felt was beyond coincidence, and has caused much concern for the production."

Raining on Bungay's parade, projectionist Paul Speed said he'd put the incidents down to technical difficulties. "In Soho, we get outages when there is a big demand for power for heating when the temperature drops," he said.

Technical difficulty or paranormal activity? Or the cinema staff taking the complete piss out of Bungay? Ooooh, most likely the latter.

Dec 01 -'Press one for demonic possessions, press two for visions of Hell... Catholic Church sets up exorcist hotline':

Help is at hand for Catholics in Milan who need to ward off evil at short notice.
The diocese has set up an exorcist hotline to cope with growing demand for assistance in dealing with potential cases of demonic possession.
People contacting the switchboard will be able to schedule a visit from one of a team of 12 priests on call to deal with emergency exorcisms.

Monsignor Angelo Mascheroni, who has been chief exorcist in Milan since 1995, said the service had been set up in response to increasing numbers of requests from worshippers, and added that the number of exorcists appointed in the diocese had doubled over the past 15 years. The priest, who described how one exorcist was dealing with as many as 120 cases every day, said the switchboard is manned from Monday to Friday between 2.30pm and 5pm.
